Sharpening
This is a workshop for those who have their own carving tools but have not used them because they’re in such bad shape or are confused by the many ways there are out there to sharpen blades. Participants will learn to effectively use water stones, sharpening ‘papers’ and a strop for honing. No machines or jigs needed. Just like learning to read the wood for carving, participants will learn to read the steel of their tool and patiently work toward sharpening a gouge to a mirror finish.
$40 (one time fee, after that you’ve a lifetime subscription to any sharpening course I host ;)
Beginner Woodcarving
Your hand in relief. Your hand provides a familiar 3 dimensional subject for observation and study… a skill also needed as you learn to carve. As a relief carving, holding your work secure is important but easy with clamping. This frees up the participant to focus on tool usage and getting familiar with the wood. A satisfying project since individual physical characteristics of the participants hand is always apparent in the final outcome.
$180
Lettering (Non- Beginner)
Letter carving will focus on skew knife technique. Through a series of practice panels provided, carver’s will develop their letter carving skill and become proficient with the knife. This is for those who have carved before or who are proficient with hand tools.
This is a prerequisite for Quarterboard course TBA
$180
Open Studio (Non-Beginner)
For returning carvers. Have your own project you want to carve but don’t have tools or enough of them...yet? Want to receive tips along the way, share ideas with others or experiment? I’ll also be carving my own project but available if you get stuck.
$100/4 weekly sessions
