If you are in or around the Halifax area on Thursday July 11, stop by the Secord Gallery around 7pm and join us for the opening of ‘Got Wood?’ (if you can't make the opening, it runs all summer). After learning that I was showing my work along side Ian Gilson’s 'peculiar art' (iangilsonfinearts.weebly.com), I gave him a ring to see if he’d be interested in a collaborative piece (he may now think he accepted too quickly). We have created a couple of pieces and I can tell you there have been a few laughs in generating them. He’s ‘mad‘ I say…’mad’!

It’s up! Over the winter I worked on my favorite commission to date – a suspended full 5 foot Humpback whale sculpture.  Many of you have followed ‘his’ creation from the purchase of the lumber to the installation – you can see these photos here.  Thanks to Greg, Monique & BJ of ColeBuilt for doing a wonderful job installing the piece!

Soon photographer Robert George Young will do a proper shoot of the ‘big whale’ in it’s new home.  Bob has been photographing my work since the beginning and makes my work look it’s absolute best. You can view more of his work at robertgeorgeyoung.com He is also represented by Masterfile & Getty Images.

One of the more influencial people when it comes to my work is Bryan Maycock who has acted as my ‘technical advisor’ since I became a woodcarver. You can draw the connection particularly in my work using frames and etched text. He draws from his continued genealogical research to inform his work but you don’t need to be interested in ancestory to be totally intrigued. View his work at www.bryanmaycock.com
